Political Demonstration - June 27, 2008
Local civil organizations are planning a national march in Managua, starting at the Princess Hilton Hotel at 9:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2008.
The Route:
From the Hilton Princess Hotel the participants will march north towards the Rotunda Ruben Dario (Metrocentro), continue north in front of the National Cathedral, and keep marching to the underpass in front of Laguna Tiscapa. At the underpass, they will make a left towards the Military Hospital, and then turn north towards the Crown Plaza Hotel. They will march through the rotunda at the corner of Plaza Inter Mall and continue north, passing the National Assembly. The march will conclude at the Gonzalez Theater on Carretera Norte.
We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can possibly escalate into violence. U.S. citizens are therefore urged to exercise caution.
The Embassy’s Regional Security Officer has recommended that Embassy personnel not drive through barricades encountered on the street, that they keep windows up and doors locked in their vehicles, and that they carry a cell phone.
